2 Pregnant Women Among 62 Cases Of Zika Virus In Michigan
DETROIT (WWJ) - Sixty-two cases of the mosquito-borne Zika virus have been confirmed in Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has now issued a travel warning in response, especially for woman traveling to a warmer destination where the Zika virus is being transmitted locally.
"We want to make sure that this message is out there - that if you are going to be traveling - that you are aware of Zika, you talk to your physician ahead of time and you get the recommendations," says Jennifer Eisner with the department of health.
She says the warning applies to people heading to warmer destinations where there is active Zika transmission.
She also says pregnant women and couples who are planning to conceive in the near future should consider avoiding nonessential travel to those areas.
There are two cases of confirmed Zika virus in pregnant women in Michigan. Both stemming from travel related infections.
