2 Masked Robbers Steal $50,000 From Rochester Hills ATM
ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) -- Police are on the hunt for two robbers who got away with $50,000 after breaking into an ATM at a drive-through on Sunday.
The robbery happened at the PNC Bank on Walton Boulevard in Rochester Hills around 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Police say an employee was servicing the ATM and noticed that an access point to the device -- a tunnel from inside the bank -- had been tampered with. An air conditioner in the island containing the ATM had been forcibly removed, allowing access to the service stairway.
Plywood had been placed over the opening and the locking mechanism and hinges of the ATM were severed with a cutting torch.
Video surveillance shows the two suspects are black men wearing masks. One suspect was seen wearing a New York Yankees hat and a leather jacket, while the other was wearing a black hoodie.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and the FBI are conducting an investigation.
