2 Firefighters Injured In Massive Industrial Fire
ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Two firefighters were injured while battling a massive industrial fire overnight in Roseville.
The fire started around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at National Precast Inc., an idle industrial building on Little Mack Avenue between 12 and 13 Mile roads. Firefighters from 10 departments were called to battle the blaze.
Crews remained on the scene Thursday morning. Fire Battalion Chief Joel Wyatt said the fire is under control, but they're having a hard time completely extinguishing the flames.
"There's some areas that we cannot get to because of the structure, how it's constructed, and we're not going to dedicate manpower to go in there and search it out by hand. So, we're using every available means to douse it from the exterior in a safe manner," Wyatt told WWJ's Mike Campbell.
One firefighter injured his foot on a ladder and was taken to the hospital. Wyatt said the man's injury could be serious, but it's not life threatening. Another firefighter injured his hand.
The American Red Cross also responded to the fire to provide aid to firefighters who worked in brutally cold temperatures that dipped below zero overnight. Wyatt said the firefighters worked in short shifts that were rotated.
"There's always a concern, and that's why we rehab our firefighters on a regular basis, putting them into a warm environment and making sure that their vital signs are stable," he said.
Roseville crews were assisted by fire departments from Center Line, Clinton Township, Eastpointe, Fraser, Harrison Township Mount Clemens, St. Clair Shores, Sterling Heights, and Warren.
A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
