2 Detroit Men Questioned In 6-Month-Old Girl's Shooting Death Released From Custody

DETROIT (WWJ) - Two men who were being questioned in connection with the murder of a 6-month-old girl over the weekend in Detroit have been released from police custody.

Investigators say they don't have enough evidence to link Christopher Long Jr. and Jose Jackson to Saturday's shooting death of Miracle Murray.

The gunfire, near 7 Mile and Greenfield roads, also left a 24-year-old man wounded.

Police say Murray was in a yard with adults and other children outside of a home on Winthrop Street at Clarita Avenue when a man ran up and started shooting. The gunman fled in a car, described by witnessed as a silver Saturn.

The Wayne County medical examiner's office ruled the infant's death a homicide, saying she was shot in the back.

Police have said the shooting appears to be gang-related and may be connected to the fatal shooting of another small child, 3-year-old Anaiya Denise Montgomery, on Easter Sunday. Three people have been charged with murder in that case.

The search for suspects continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact Detroit police at 313-267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
