2 Dead As Family Member Re-Enters Home Engulfed In Flames
DETROIT (WWJ) - An investigation is underway on the cause of a deadly fire on Detroit's east side.
The fire broke out about 5 a.m. Sunday morning on Melbourne Street near Woodward and I-75 taking the lives of two family members.
"Nothing can replace what happened - nothing can replace this house, this house has been here for years, for years," said Kamy Lowe the niece of resident in the home.
She says the family just suffered the loss of another family member recently and this tragedy compounds the sadness.
"He stayed in this house and he loved all of us," speaking of her Uncle Glenn.
Glenn reportedly rescued a young boy from the fire but died after going back into the home to rescue a niece, who also sucomed to the fire.
A neighbor, Antonio, woke up as the blaze begin. "I ran down to see if I could get somebody out of the house, get help, you know, but it was burning so bad, you couldn't do nothing."
"I love that family," said Antonio. "I've known them all my life, they was good people - especially the guy that died - they called him Uncle Glenn. We would see him, he don't bother nobody. Humble man, it's just so sad."
Authorities are still searching for the cause of the fire.
