2 Warren Police Officers Injured, 2 Suspects Arrested When Chase Ends In Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - Four people are injured and two are under arrest after a police chase crash that left a patrol car overturned near I-696 in Warren.

Authorities say the police vehicle flipped, and the suspect, driving an orange Chevy HHR, struck a pickup truck, Thursday afternoon — ending the pursuit off the 696 service drive at 11 Mile and Dequinder roads.

Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green said two police officers were injured along with one of two suspects wanted in a mini crime spree.

"About 1 o'clock there were two attempted bank robberies in Warren," he WWJ's Jon Hewett and other reporters at the scene. "Then there was a successful bank robbery, just north of 14 Mile and Van Dyke (in Sterling Heights) — same bad guns, same vehicle descriptions."

Green said Sterling Heights police put out a BOL with a description of the suspect vehicle.

"We locate the car at Martin and Van Dyke, officers initiate a traffic stop, and the chase is on," Green said.

When the pursuit ended in a crash, two police officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of what Green said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Green said the pickup truck driver, was not believed to be seriously hurt, but he had to be cut out of his vehicle by a rescue team.

The two suspects were arrested; one taken to a local hospital with a head injury and the other to jail.

WWJ's Traffic Reporter Lorna Stevens said westbound 11 Mile was closed between Ryan Rd. and Dequindre and eastbound 11 Mile was shut down at Dequindre.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area as an investigation is ongoing
