2 Arrested In Assault, Carjacking At Farmington Hills Apartments

FARMINGTION HILLS (WWJ) - Two people have been arrested in connection with the abduction, assault and carjacking of a woman at a Farmington Hills apartment complex.

Police Chief Chuck Nebus said they 're reviewing video tapes but they not sure yet sure how the suspects — a man and a woman — got into the Fairmont Park Apartments Homes building, near 9 Mile and Drake roads, at around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The pair was waiting inside when the 40-year-old victim returned home. They beat her in the head, Nebus said, then dragged her out to her car.

The victim was able to escape by rolling out of the door of the moving vehicle.

The suspects got away in the woman's 2010 while Honda Crosstour — but it was recovered Thursday afternoon.

According to police, a citizen — who had seen the story in the media — alerted authorities when he or she spotted the vehicle  near Drake and 11 Mile roads in Farmington Hills.

The vehicle was stopped by Farmington Hills officers and the two occupants were into custody after a short foot chase.

Nebus told WWJ's Sandra McNeil it's an odd case.

"Most carjackers normally force someone in or out of their car when they're exiting or entering, and you normally wouldn't see a male and female if the intent was a sexual assault," Nebus said. "So the circumstances are very unusual."

Following the arrests, Nebus, in a media release, thanked citizens who called in numerous tips.

The victim was hospitalized, recovering from injuries sustained during the ordeal — but's expected to be OK.

The suspects' names were not immediate released, pending formal charges.
