16-Year-Old Boy Drowns In Southfield Apartment Complex Pool

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Police are investigating following the drowning of a teenage boy in Southfield on Monday.

Authorities say that the boy, 16, died as the result of an apparent accidental drowning just before 4 p.m. on Monday at the Sutton Place Apartment complex near 9 Mile and Lahser. Southfield Police Lt. Thomas Langewicz spoke to WWJ Newsradio 950 about the incident.

"Upon arrival, Southfield officers found an unresponsive 16-year-old Oak Park resident at the swimming pool," Langewicz said. "The Southfield Fire Department transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Southfield Police Department is currently investigating the incident."

About 30 people were reportedly at the pool at the time before someone noticed the victim at the bottom of the pool.
