26-Year-Old Man In Critical Condition After Pickup, Semi Crash In Lyon Township

LYON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - One person has been critically injured in a crash Monday morning in western Oakland County.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a 26-year-old South Lyon man in a Chevy Silverado pickup truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer that was stopped while turning into a business along westbound Grand River Rd., east of South Hill Rd. at around 8 a.m.

The driver of the pickup, who had to be extricated from his vehicle, was taken by medical helicopter to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition. Investigators say he was not wearing his seatbelt.

The semi driver, 46-year-old Redford Township resident, was not injured. Investigators say he was wearing his seatbelt.

No names have been released.

Westbound Grand River was shut down at Old Plank Rd. following the crash, but his since reopened. Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor, the sheriff's office said, as an investigation continues.
