1 Killed, 4 Injured After SUV Hits Tree In Western Michigan

GRATTAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — One woman was killed and four other people, including three children, were injured when a car slammed into a tree in western Michigan.

The Kent County sheriff's office says a Chevy Blazer driven by a 46-year-old woman struck the tree Friday afternoon in Grattan Township, northwest of Grand Rapids.

A 19-year-old passenger from Florida died. The children -- ages 11, seven and one -- were treated for minor injuries and later released from hospitals. A 21-year-old woman also was injured. The driver, 21-year-old woman and the children are from Clarksville, southwest of Grand Rapids.

The crash is under investigation.
