1 Injured In Crash That Closed Southfield Freeway For Hours
DEARBORN (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are investigating after a driver left the Southfield freeway this Thursday afternoon, crashed through a fence, and hit a passing vehicle on the freeway.
Lt. Mike Shaw with MSP says the spectacular crash closed the Southfield southbound at Warren for two and a half hours.
"Talking to the driver that was involved there - he said it was like watching a stunt-show and he had never seen anything like that - so he was very fortunate that the way , the angle that the vehicle struck him - that he was not more seriously injured. He walked away with no injuries at all," said Shaw.
The at-fault driver is hospitalized with serious injuries.
Police believe that driver had been drinking, but Shaw says they also believe there was something more.
"There are some other charges, even if he proves not to be under the influence - there has to be something that caused him to bolt off the service drive up there - it wasn't an angle that you would lose control or something to that effect, there's a little more to the story, " he said.
Shaw says with the layout of the road, it doesn't appear to be just a case of a driver losing control. They hope to interview him as his condition improves.
