Hotspots Still An Issue, But Rabbit Mountain Fire Contained

HYGIENE, Colo. (CBS4) - The 151-acre Rabbit Mountain Fire in Boulder County is fully contained, but many firefighters are still on scene dealing with flareups and variable wind gusts.

More than 25 firefighters were working at the burn area Tuesday morning. It's located along Ute Highway between Longmont and Lyons, not far from Hygiene and near Rabbit Mountain.

On Monday, the flames destroyed four structures. Three were described as being outbuildings and one was a barn.

Evacuations were in place for a few hours on Monday evening.

"It's February, we should be seeing snow here on the ground, but unfortunately not," said Hygiene Fire Chief Chad Bollacker. "It used to be fire seasons were considered kind of an eight month stretch. Not anymore. Around here, fire season is year round."

A Red Flag Warning is in effect across most of Colorado through Tuesday evening, with wind gusts exceeding 50 mph possible.
