Wildfire Burns 13 Homes In Wyoming, 50 Percent Contained

CASPER, Wyo. (CBS4)- Evacuations could be lifted on Tuesday night for people forced to leave their homes because of a large wildfire burning in Wyoming.

According to the Casper Star Tribune the fire burning near Cole Creek is about 50 percent contained. Thirteen homes have burned since the fire started over the weekend.

It has grown to at least 9,000 acres. Crews had to evacuate more than 500 homes as flames approached the residential areas.

"When I saw the flames literally coming over the hill, it was a no-brainer to me, it was time to get my grandson and my dogs and myself to safety," said Cole Creek resident Curtis Fortin.

Strong winds and dry conditions helped fuel the flames on Monday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
