CBS4's Karen Leigh Interviews Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert has taken over as host of the The Late Show.

Prior to the show's debut CBS4's Karen Leigh traveled to Los Angeles to interview the new force in late night TV.

Colbert says he's excited for the musical component of the show.

"I'm looking forward to the music so much," he told Leigh. "The Ed Sullivan Theater where we're moving into has got the most amazing acoustics. It's a beautiful Broadway theater and we've renovated it back to its 1927 beauty. No one's since it this was since before Ed Sullivan."

Colbert is the youngest of 11 children and his busy mother made sure he always had an audience.

"I was outside the kitchen and I heard her saying to my brothers and sisters, 'listen to his stories.' And I went, 'Oh my God she's been telling him to listen all these years.' And to this day I have a suspicion that if someone is really enjoying what I'm doing it's because my mother got to them and made them listen to me."

We know his first guest will be George Clooney, but who's on his dream guest list?

"Back on the old show I was hoping to get J.D. Sallinger on, which is a creepy thing to want, but I just loved his stuff. The Pope would be fun, he seems like a nice guy."

Colbert also has some fond memories of visiting Colorado, he even believes one mountain drive reminds him of a scene from a popular movie.

Leigh played a little game of word association during the interview. This one brought back memories of an interesting moment he shared with Congressman Jared Polis, while hosting the Colbert Report.
