U.S. Highway 36 Near Estes Park Closing For Blasting

ESTES PARK, Colo. (AP) — Highway officials are planning to close U.S. Highway 36 west of Pinewood Springs near Estes Park on Wednesday as part of a flood reconstruction project.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says the highway will be closed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as crews blast loose rocks to stabilize the canyon wall and river channel. Motorists can use alternate routes, including Colorado Highway 7 between Lyons and Estes Park.

September's floods killed nine people, damaged or destroyed nearly 2,000 homes and washed out hundreds of miles of roads.
