Colorado toddler with special needs found dead

The body of a 3-year-old boy with special needs who was reported missing out of a southeastern Colorado town Saturday was found dead Sunday night, according to police.

Due to the boy's age, we have removed his name, photo and other details about him, but the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the boy's body was found.

"It is with great sadness that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, along with Rocky Ford Police, the Otero County Sheriff's Office and Otero County Coroner can confirm the discovery of a body in an irrigation canal earlier today," CBI said in a statement Sunday night.

Investigators from several agencies searched the area of the boy's home and soon focused on the Catlin canal, which runs directly behind that home. Crews searching the banks of the canal found a body several miles downstream in the canal around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Otero County Coroner responded to the scene and identified the body as belonging to the boy who was missing.
