State Patrol Celebrates 80 Years Of Serving Colorado

DENVER (CBS4)- The Colorado State Patrol celebrated 80 years of protecting and serving residents on Wednesday.

Retired and current members of all ranks, along with family, friends and supporters gathered on the West steps of the state Capitol on Wednesday morning.

Gov. John Hickenlooper was also at the celebration where he thanked state troopers for their service and dedication.

"I want to thank all the members, those are here and those who couldn't be here, of the Colorado State Patrol for their unwavering dedication to the people of Colorado," said Hickenlooper.

He also read a proclamation celebrating the patrol.

"For 80 years the Colorado State Patrol has served the residents and visitors of Colorado" said Colonel Scott Hernandez, Chief of the State Patrol in a statement. "We are proud of our history and excited for what the future holds, not only for us but for the State of Colorado as a whole."

Winners from a children's poster contest were also announced and awarded.
