Snow Making Guns Fired Up At A-Basin

ARAPAHOE BASIN, Colo. (CBS4)- The snow making guns are running at Arapahoe Basin in preparation for the upcoming ski and snowboarding season.

A-basin fired up snow guns in the race to be the first ski area to open in Colorado. Last year A-basin was the first ski area to open in all of North America.

A-basin and Loveland Ski Area are usually the top two ski areas in a race to be the first to open in the state.

The cold temperatures and natural snow in Summit County made conditions right for snow making.

According to A-basin it takes approximately two weeks from the start of snow making to create the 18" base necessary to start skiing on the first trail to open, the intermediate High Noon run.

If the snow making conditions continue to be optimal, A-basin will move onto other trails.
