Snow Day Means Sledding For Kids

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4) - When a snow day strikes, the backpacks and books are replaced with sleds and snowboards. Paintbrush Park in Highlands Ranch was swarmed with children who got the day off from Douglas County schools.

"I got up at 5:30 a.m. and saw that schools were open and I wasn't too happy. Then I got up at 6:30 and they were all closed so that was a bonus for me," said 12-year-old Carson Jones.

"My mom wakes me up and says, 'It's a snow day, you can keep sleeping.' So I decide to get up anyway and come here," said 13-year-old Ryan Graham.

Matt Tom was among the parents who also hit the sledding hill, "It's an exciting day. Get out with the kids and play hooky from work. Come out here and have fun with them."

Tom owns his own business but told CBS4 he knows a lot of parents who had to find plans for their children because they were expected to show up at work.

"I would be stumped there. I wouldn't know what to do with them," said Tom.

When asked if he was hoping for another snow day on Wednesday, Graham replied, "Hopefully yes. I would love one."
