Sinkhole That Formed On Lafayette Street Could Take Months To Fix
LAFAYETTE, Colo. (CBS4) - State engineers on Tuesday visited the scene of a large sinkhole that opened up in the middle of a Lafayette neighborhood.
The sinkhole nearly swallowed a man and his SUV on East Cleveland Street early Monday morning. He was able to get out safely after being stranded for approximately an hour.
Engineers evaluated the sinkhole and plan to have crews working to begin repairing it on Wednesday, but it could still take months to fix because the sinkhole opened where an old mine shaft used to be.
Engineers need to make sure the area is safe before reopening the road.
