Rockies Bullpen Falters In Milwaukee In 6-4 Loss

MILWAUKEE (The Sports Xchange) - Jon Gray struck out 10 batters and Nolan Arenado hit a three-run home run for Colorado, but the Rockies' bullpen allowed three runs in the seventh as the Milwaukee Brewers rallied for a 6-4 victory Tuesday night at Miller Park.

Trailing 4-2 heading into the seventh, Rockies pinch-hitter Orlando Arcia and Jonathan Villar hit back-to-back one-out doubles off Jake McGee and Boone Logan to make it a one-run game.

Logan (2-3) struck out Scooter Gennett and intentionally walked Ryan Braun to put two runners on first and second before giving way to Carlos Estevez. Estevez got ahead 0-2 to Hernan Perez, who ripped the next offering down the line in right for a triple that scored the tying and go-ahead runs. That made a winner out of Brent Suter (1-1) for the first time in his career.

A pinch-hit sacrifice fly from Domingo Santana provided some breathing room for relief pitcher Corey Knebel, who put two on with two outs in the ninth but got Nick Hundley to bounce into a game-ending force out at second for his first career save.

Gray worked six innings and allowed only two runs on four hits while walking three. He also helped his own cause on offense, adding an insurance run with an RBI double in the sixth off Jhan Marinez.

Arenado finished with three hits in four trips while Ryan Raburn added a pair of singles for the Rockies, who have dropped two in a row and three of their last four.

Chase Anderson went five innings for Milwaukee, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked a pair and struck out seven in his first start since taking a line drive to the knee a week ago at Wrigley Field.

An RBI single from Martin Maldonado and a wild pitch from Gray gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead in the second.

Charlie Blackmon and David Dahl opened the third with back-to-back singles against Anderson, who saw the lead disappear one batter later when Arenado sent a first-pitch changeup to left for his 33rd home run of the season.

Anderson retired the next three in order and stranded runners in each of the next two innings. He gave way to a pinch hitter in the bottom of the fifth.
