Reward Offered In Search For Suspect After Man Found Shot To Death In Car
DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are offering a reward in the search for a suspect in the murder of a man found shot to death in his car. Detectives hope the public can help them catch a killer.
Philip Lucero was found dead in his car at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday on the 4300 east block of Martin Luther King Boulevard. He had been shot inside the car.
Police responded to a call of a suspicious car pulled over at MLK Blvd. and found Lucero, 48, inside. The car was still idling.
Detectives are working to determine whether he was targeted or a victim of a random act of violence.
Lucero's friends are baffled as to what happened.
"You don't come across people like that everyday," said Lucero's friend, David Wille. "He's just such a nice, kind, genuine super guy and you saw that as soon as you said, 'Hi.'"
Willie, a photojournalist with CBS4, called Lucero a close friend and former business partner.
Lucero owned his own television production company in Denver, Phil Lucero Productions.
"I did TV shows with him for four years. We started a production company together and shot high school sports all over Denver and we had the time of our lives," said Willie.
The motive behind the shooting is a mystery and friends say Lucero was a man with no enemies.
"A smart business man, a great husband, a great person, a great friend. It just really doesn't make any sense at all," said Willie.
Police believe that Lucero may have been on his way home since his car was found just a few blocks from where he lived.
Detectives want help finding Lucero's killer and anyone who witnessed the shooting.
"If you made a list of senseless crimes you would put this one at the top," said Willie.
