Suspect arrested in Colorado armed kidnapping that spanned 2 counties arrested
Police have arrested a Colorado man they say got into a stranger's car and forced them at gunpoint to drive from Highlands Ranch to Englewood.
The suspect got into the alleged victim's car in the 9200 block of South Broadway in Highlands Ranch and forced them to drive to Broadway and Chenango Avenue in Englewood -- about 6 miles north if they took a direct route -- on Friday night, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said.
The driver wasn't physically harmed. according to the sheriff's office.
Thomas Pratt, 42, now faces several charges including first-degree kidnapping, felony menacing and first-degree criminal trespass as well as violating his parole.
"Our deputies worked around the clock since this happened to track down the suspect," Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said in a statement. "This was fantastic police work by our detectives, Impact team, and our partners at the Denver Police Department, Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force and the United States Secret Service."
Court records show a long list of cases for someone matching Pratt's name and age dating back to at least as far back as 2003, including a careless driving conviction in 2006, an animal cruelty conviction from 2013, a felony trespassing conviction from 2018 and a felony burglary case from 2021, among others.
