Police Chase Stolen Car, Search For Driver

DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver tried to catch a carjacking suspect on Friday evening but called off the pursuit when the driver crossed city lines.

On Friday evening, officers spotted a red Dodge Charger that had been stolen out of Lakewood on Halloween. They tried to pull over the driver just before 5 p.m. Friday near South Irving and West Aida but the car started speeding away.

After a short pursuit, officers called off the search because the driver crossed into Lakewood. Police relied on Copter4 to follow the suspect vehicle from the air.

The car stopped under a carport at an apartment complex near 20th and Robb. Two people inside the vehicle ran away before police arrived.

Police put up a perimeter and K-9 officers helped in the search. Officers also tried to contact the owner of the Charger. Officers did not locate the suspects.

Investigators say the car was carjacked at gun point near the Big Bunny Motel on Halloween. The owner didn't report the car stolen until the next day.

Police have not released a description of the two suspects but say they don't believe the public is in danger.
