Pilot Shot Down In Vietnam War To Be Buried In Colorado

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — An Air Force pilot and air commando who was shot down in 1970 during the Vietnam War will be buried at the Air Force Academy.

A funeral and burial service for Capt. Richard David Chorlins of University City, Missouri, will be conducted Tuesday at the school outside Colorado Springs.

Chorlins was a 1967 graduate of the academy.

He was listed as missing in action after his A-1H Skyraider was shot down over Laos. His status was later changed to killed in action.

His remains were returned to the U.S. in 2003, but the Air Force says it took a decade for DNA testing to positively identify them.

He was a first lieutenant when he died and was posthumously promoted to captain. He was assigned to the 602nd Special Operations Squadron.
