Pilot Killed In Small Plane Crash Identified

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – The pilot killed in a small plane crash in northern Douglas County Wednesday evening has been identified. Gregory Dirk Pelley from Englewood died in the fiery crash.

Pelley, 53, was the only person on board the plane when it crashed. He died from multiple blunt force injuries.

The plane crashed near Otero Street and Smokey Hill Road. The plane caught fire when it crashed and also started a 2-acre brush fire.

Only the tail of remained after firefighters put out the fire.

An autopsy on Pelley was completed but results such as toxicology are still pending further study.

The plane was registered to a California company. It was a fixed-wing, twin engine plane able to carry three people.

A homeowner who lives nearby told CBS4 the plane was flying "out of control."
