Overhaul Of Colorado Witness ID Standards Becomes Law

DENVER (AP) - An overhaul of eyewitness identifications standards in Colorado has been signed into law.

Colorado joins 12 states that have changed procedures for eyewitness identifications in criminal cases.

The changes include telling witnesses reviewing a lineup that the perpetrator might not be in the lineup they're shown. Witnesses would also be told that a criminal investigation would continue even if they don't choose someone in a lineup.

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed the legislation into law Thursday.

Eyewitness identifications are under scrutiny because scientists say they can be unreliable.
