One City Changes The Way Crime Is Reported
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Colorado Springs are changing the way crimes are reported in an effort to help with staffing issues.
Starting Sunday, some crimes like property theft will only be reported online. Other crimes will only be reported over the phone.
If a home is broken into, community service officers, not patrol officers, will respond to investigate.
"I suppose if it does increase the response time that they can actually show up for something faster than that, it would be an improvement," said Colorado Springs resident Brandon.
The Colorado Springs chief of police said he wants to free up more officers to respond to emergencies. Patrol officers will continue to respond to active crimes where a suspect is on the scene, and emergency situations.
