Officer Adsit Set To Return To Duty After 18 Surgeries

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police officer John Adsit is returning to work Wednesday for the first time since a near-life ending accident.

A driver hit and dragged Adsit while he was on duty on his bicycle in December 2014. He was escorting East High School students back toward school along Colfax Avenue after they protested downtown.

Adsit went through 18 surgeries and will likely need four more.

"He has fought incredibly hard to get to this day, so needless-to-say, it is very exciting to see the incredible progress he has made," his cousin wrote in an email to CBS4.

Adsit will return to work just a few hours a day at first.

Adsit and his family are encouraging people to run in a 5K race next month in Castle Pines North that benefits injured first responders.
