New Security Measures In Place As DPS Students Return To Class

DENVER (CBS4) - Classes start Monday at Denver Public Schools and new security measures will be place.

The improvements include new card readers and ID badges for teachers and staff. There are also new cameras.

Call buttons have been installed in classrooms to speed up lockdown procedures if there is a threat.

All the new systems work in sync if there's an emergency.

"In the event there's an imminent threat, rather than having to make a phone call they can hit that button and it's instantaneous, It goes back to our dispatch center. DPD gets notified and we start an armed security response," Michael Eaton with DPS security said.

DPS paid for the security improvements with money from a bond voters passed in 2012.
