New All-Star Nolan Arenado Answers 5 Questions From Fans

DENVER (CBS4) - Nolan Arenado has won two Gold Gloves so far in his young baseball career, but until Monday he had never been selected as an All-Star.

On the CBS4 show Xfinity Monday Live the Colorado Rockies third baseman displayed modesty about being named to the All-Star team by his peers. He also took time to answer five different questions from the fans:

1. You didn't attend college. Had you attended college, where would you have gone?

"Arizona State. That was the school I committed to. They had a good program at the time, they still do ... and I really like Pat Murphy, who was the coach there. And I like Josh Holiday, who was an assistant coach."

2. Why do you wear the number 28?

"There's actually no reason. In spring training, my first big league camp, they give rookie guys 80 and big numbers like that, but I got 28, and it was a low number, so it was a cool thing. And that's just why I wear it."

3. Since you are a California kid, what is your favorite beach in Southern California?

"San Clemente Beach. I have a lot of friends there and that's where we go to the beach and surf or do whatever."

4. How does it work for ballplayers at the All-Star Game? Will you ask for autographs?

"I definitely will with some of the players that will be there. I'm a huge fan of Matt Holiday. He is one of my favorite players I ever watched, so I'll try to sneak some of those in there." Arenado then told show host Vic Lombardi that's pretty common across the league, and that he's signed some balls for other players.

5. Will you participate in the home run derby?

Arenado hasn't been invited to participate in the derby yet, but he has hit an impressive number of home runs so the invite could be coming. "I was thinking about it. We'll see. I kind of want to, but ... I've got to think about it," Arenado said in response to the question. Lombardi then asked him what would prevent him from accepting. "Everyone says, 'It could ruin your swing' and this and that, so that's creeping him my head a little bit. But this ... could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
