North Metro Neighborhood On Alert After Attempted Abduction

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4)- Deputies in Adams County are on alert after a little boy says a man tried to lure him into a truck at recess during school.

The 10-year-old said the man tried to get him into a truck during recess at Metz Elementary on Thursday.

Metz Elementary is in the Adams 50 School District and located at 2341 Sherrelwood Drive near 84th and Zuni.

Adams 50 School officials sent a letter home to parents along with automated phone calls alerting them to the situation.

"I'm shocked, I'm surprised," said neighbor Walter Davila. "It could happen anywhere. Just when you think it's safe, it's not."

"It's crazy. I take my brother and sister to school every day and never expect anything like that," said another neighbor.

The fifth grader alerted a teacher that the man was trying to get him to leave the playground and into his truck. That's when the man sped away.

The suspect is being described as a Hispanic male between the ages of 35 and 40, driving a white pickup truck with a blue or teal stripe.

"We want to make sure we don't have anyone out there trying to abduct children. We don't know what the person's intentions were," said Adams County Sheriff's Office spokesman Aaron Pataluna. "We'd like to talk to them and find out what they were doing at school that day."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Adams County Sheriff's Office at 303.288.1535.
