Wrong-Way Motorcyclist Killed After Slamming Into Stolen Car

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - A fatal motorcycle accident early Thursday morning in Lakewood closed a portion of Kipling Street.

Police said just before 1 a.m. the motorcycle was heading north in the southbound lane on Kipling Street when the driver hit a vehicle head-on between West Alameda Avenue and West Exposition Avenue.

The motorcyclist, identified at Konrad Gula, 26, was killed in the crash.

The car involved turned out to be a stolen Mercedes from Denver, and the occupants fled. According to police the occupants of the car were a man and a woman. One of them may have facial injuries. Witnesses told police the couple looked young.

The Mercedes was stolen sometime in August. Anyone with information about the Mercedes or its occupants are asked to call police.

Police are investigating to see if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

The southbound lanes of Kipling Street between Alameda and Exposition had to be closed for a long period of time for the investigation.
