Morfitt Blog: 'The First Mile Is The Hardest'

By Karen Morfitt

The first mile is the hardest.

That's what everyone has always told me, but I have to say the second, third and well the rest of them are pretty tough on me too.

Which is why signing up for my first half marathon was a big deal and the thought of doing it with CBS 4 cameras following me around was even more frightening.

Meeting with the coaches at Runners Edge of the Rockies helped take the edge off and  to my surprise our first "long run" (5 miles for me) wasn't as death defying as I anticipated, I'd even say I had a lot of fun!

RUN WITH CBS4: Track Team CBS4

Typically the second I start running is the second I start counting down to finishing. The training group was much different. Talking with and getting to know some of the other runners in my training group kept my mind off the distance.

When all was said and done and I ended up running more than I hoped for and was left looking forward to pushing myself even further the next time around.
