Mayor Hancock Wants Taxpayers To Reauthorize Preschool Program
DENVER (CBS4) – The Denver City Council must decide if it will ask voters to reauthorize a tax first put in place in 2006 for a program aimed at making sure children are ready to learn when they enter kindergarten.
Mayor Michael Hancock says it's money well spent.
"We knew then and we know now that a child prepared for kindergarten is more likely to graduate from high school, and once they graduated they are more likely to go to college or move into a career," Hancock said.
The ballot measure would ask voters to reauthorize the .12 percent sales tax and also to increase it by .03 percent to expand the program to all 4 year olds.
