Mark Madera In Critical Condition After Confrontation With Jefferson County Deputy At Bowles Crossing Shopping Center
(CBS4) - The suspect remained in critical condition after a shooting involving a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy. It happened early Thursday morning in a parking lot of the Bowles Crossing shopping center near Wadsworth Boulevard and West Bowles Avenue.
The man allegedly called authorities for help just before midnight on May 4, saying he was driving and was being followed. He pulled into the parking lot at Vasa Fitness located at 8055 W. Bowles Ave. and the deputy who arrived was confronted by the man, who was armed with a knife.
A fight broke out and the man was shot several times by a deputy. The fighting continued even after the man was shot. The deputy held him at gunpoint until additional deputies arrived.
The suspect has been identified as Mark Madera, 30, by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. He has been arrested for criminal attempt first-degree murder, first-degree assault on a peace officer, felony menacing and resisting arrest.
No deputies were hurt.
