Man Arrested After Forcing Drinking Buddy Out Of Bed At Gunpoint

LONGMONT, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Longmont are investigating a kidnapping case in which a man allegedly dragged another man out of bed and forced him to help find his lost car.

The report about the kidnapping came in at approximately 7 a.m. on Friday. Police say it happened at a home on Eagle View Circle. The suspect, Kevin Atwood, was later arrested on Highway 66.

Police say Atwood had been drinking with the victim in Mead, northeast of Longmont, on Thursday night.

"He came upstairs and he thought my other friend and I had his car and we didn't. I said, 'Kevin, go home, sleep this off, no one stole your car,'" said victim Rod Feiner.

Atwood allegedly had a shotgun when he demanded to be let into the home where Feiner was Friday morning. Feiner said he threatened him and ordered him to drive him around to find the vehicle.

"Then I saw the guns and I've got four kids. I just jumped in the car," said Feiner.

Feiner agreed to drive.

Members of the Feiner's family, including his children, were in the home at the time.

Soon afterwards police located the two men in a silver Acura at Highway 66, just west of County Line Road.

"They left the victim's house in Longmont, drove here to Highway 66, we had a BOLO (be on the lookout) out and an officer spotted the car," said Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur.

Officers said they found an AR-15 rifle and a shotgun in the car.

"When I saw the weapons I said, 'You're an idiot, what if cops pull us over?' Which is what happened," said Feiner.

Atwood was taken into custody without incident. Police said it appeared he was drunk. He faces several charges including menacing, prohibited use of a weapon, harassment and kidnapping.

Feiner was unharmed. He said before this happened, he considered Atwood a good friend.
