BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)- Thousands of leaders in the Latino community have planned a protest on the University of Colorado campus in Boulder to coincide with next week's Republican presidential debate there.

The protest will also include immigration reform supporters at Farrand Field on the CU Boulder campus. They plan to respond to what they say are recent anti-immigration attacks by some presidential candidates.

and launch a voter registration campaign they are calling "My Country, My Vote."

"Immigrants have made positive contributions to our country for centuries. More importantly, immigrants will be the foundation for the future economic, political and military strength of America. 'My Country, My Vote' will remind these same politicians that immigrants, their loved ones, and their allies are voters and are ready to demonstrate their political power," Former Denver mayor Federico Pena said in a news release announcing the event.

Colorado Lt. Governor Joe Garcia will be among those speaking at the event.

The debate will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Coors Events Center. It will be broadcast by the cable news network CNBC.
