Suspects in custody after shots fired at Colorado PetSmart

Numerous police units responded after shots were fired at a Colorado PetSmart store Friday afternoon.

According to the Lakewood Police Department, multiple people called 911 to report a shooting at the PetSmart located at 160 South Wadsworth Avenue. Store employees were able to shelter in place until police arrived at the scene.

Authorities searched the area and identified two male juveniles as suspects in the investigation. Officers reportedly found firearms in their possession and took the suspects into custody. According to the Lakewood Police Department, officers did not engage in gunfire with the suspects.

Because of their ages, the LPD will not release further information on the suspects.

No injuries were reported.

Police are working to uncover why the shots were fired. They believe this was an isolated incident related to the people involved and not the area.

Victim advocates were offered to those impacted by the incident. Authorities believe there may be further witnesses and urged them to contact the LPD.
