John Jacoby Remembered As 'Unofficial Mayor Of Windsor' At Funeral
WINDSOR, Colo. (CBS4)- Family and friends said goodbye on Friday to a man who was shot and killed while riding his bicycle in Windsor and seemingly was friends with everyone.
John Jacoby, 47, known as "Johnny" to his friends, was riding his bicycle on a rural road Monday when he was shot twice. The case remains unsolved.
"Johnny will always be remembered as the unofficial mayor of Windsor because he knew, he knew more people than anybody in town," said Faith United Church of Christ Pastor Fred Evenson during the service.
Jacoby was a sports aficionado and devoted uncle, who has been described as always smiling and always on his bicycle.
"Whoever did this to our brother Johnny picked the wrong community to mess with, because we are determined and strong-willed and courageous and loving community of faith and Johnny epitomized those qualities," said Evenson.
The FBI has joined the Windsor Police Department in the investigation to solve the homicide. A shaken community gathered to remember a man who knew and loved Windsor and them.
"Every town needs a Johnny, we should all be a little bit more like Johnny," said Evenson.
Police continue to investigate his death and are following up on leads provided by the public.
