Victim Found Safe Hours After Kidnapping In Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – A man has been taken into custody in connection with a kidnapping of a woman Saturday morning in Jefferson County.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, David Sikora, 28, was arrested by police in Denver, but authorities couldn't find the alleged victim, identified as Megan Vandellen, 26, until Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said they received a report about a possible kidnapping in the area of Highway 93 and Matthews/Winters Park near Red Rocks at approximately 5 a.m.

Authorities said a man driving a white Chevy cargo or construction van with some sort of push bar on the front rammed a car that Vandellen was driving. The man then abducted the woman and fled in the van.

Investigators believe Sikora and Vandellen had been in a relationship.

Authorities found a loaded firearm magazine in the car.

The investigation led investigators to a residence located in the 300 block of South Alcott Street in Denver where police located Sikora and took him into custody. They also found a white van at the residence that had front-end damage.

Vandellen had been driving with a male companion who fled the scene after the car was forced off the road

"The man, in fear for his life, ran from the car, and he did not look back. But he heard Megan scream, and then the van took off and Megan was gone," Mark Techmeyer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities continued their search for Vandellen and found her safe mid-afternoon at a home in the same neighborhood where Sikora was arrested. Her condition hasn't been released.

Sikora remains in custody and under investigation.

Anyone with more information is asked to call police.
