"It really is an honor and something I take really seriously," Norvell said. "There hasn't been many African-American head coaches in college or professional football. We want to do well and give other guys an opportunity to get the same chance to be a head coach."

He sat down with CBS News Colorado anchors Dominic Garcia and Michelle Griego for an exclusive interview about the upcoming season.

"When we moved from Nevada to CSU we had 11 players that wanted to come with us. Good, talented young guys," Norvell remarked about his transition from coaching Nevada to Colorado State. "It's given us some quality players to set us a foundation to get started...but the majority of our kids are young. We got babies out there running around."

Norvell led the Nevada Wolf Pack to a 33-26 record and four bowl game appearances as head coach. Norvell is the first sitting head coach to be hired since 1989 when Earle Bruce was coach..

Dominic Garcia and Michelle Griego both attended CSU.
