Colorado wildfire near Twin Lakes grows to 200 acres
Fire crews have ordered evacuations near a fire burning around Twin Lakes near Leadville in Lake County.
The fire grew from 165 acres around 6 p.m. on Tuesday to 200 acres around 8 p.m. The fire was burning 12 miles southwest of Leadville. Resources from the U.S. Forest Service, Leadville Lake County Fire Rescue, Lake County Sheriff's Office, Leadville Ranger District and other agencies are on scene.
All historic structures in the Interlaken Historic District were intact as of 8 p.m., according to Jeni Windorski, spokeswoman for the U.S. Forest Service.
People were asked to evacuate the area of Interlaken and County Road 25.
Balltown and Lost Canyon Road were on pre-evacuation status. (Update: As of Wednesday morning, those areas are no longer on pre-evacuation notice.)
The evacuation center at the 6th Street Gym was closed for the evening but will reopen if needed, Windorski said.
Firefighters shared pictures showing a large plume of smoke. People recreating near Interlaken and County Road 25 were urged to evacuate, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said. Some hikers were evacuated from the area by boat.
People living in the area of Lost Canyon Road and County Road 30 are being told to get ready to leave.
Pre-evacuation orders are also in place for people living at Lost Canyon Road all the way to Balltown.
The Lake County Public Health Agency said no volunteers were needed Tuesday evening.
