Inmate Hangs Himself In Jefferson County Jail Cell

GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a 46-year-old inmate who was found unresponsive in his cell at the Jefferson County jail hanged himself.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says Joseph Eugene Martinez's cellmate found him Thursday afternoon when he returned from the jail's dayroom.

Deputies performed CPR on Martinez, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Martinez was being held on burglary and probation violation charges out of Wheat Ridge and was booked into the jail Tuesday.
