Ice Skating Rink Opens In Downtown Denver For 7th Season

DENVER (CBS4) - Southwest Airlines and the Downtown Denver Partnership have teamed up for the seventh year to offer ice skating in downtown Denver. The rink is located in Skyline Park at 16th and Arapahoe streets. For many visitors this is rink is their first experience on skates.

"This is my hockey debut, so I'm ready," said one skater with a laugh.

Skating is free. You can bring your own skates, or rent a pair for $2.00. Last year, Southwest Rink at Skyline Park welcomed 56,172 visitors, many of whom came with friends and family.

"It looks so fun, to be skating along with my friends," said another skater at the kickoff event.

"I'm going to slice the ice," said another with a laugh.

Southwest Airlines has partnered with the Downtown Denver Partnership and the City of Denver Parks and Recreation Department to build the rink for the last seven years. The rink will remain open through February 14th, 2017. And it will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
