Hundreds March In Honor Of César Chávez Day

DENVER (CBS4) - The city honored César Chávez Day on Saturday by hosting a march.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, along with hundreds of supporters, marched along the streets honoring the late civil rights activist.

Chávez is credited with paving the way for historic labor improvements, particularly for Latino farmers.

Supporter Rana Dran summed it up, stating, "If you don't know where you came from, how do you know where you're going? So to see this pride of all these young kids, knowing their heritage, and not losing it...you lose the language, you lose the heritage, the culture...and that's why I'm here supporting this march."

In addition, a statue of Chavez was unveiled at Tennyson Street and West 41st Avenue, in Denver's César Chávez Park.
