Suspect In Fatal Hit-And-Run Turns Himself In, Police Say
DENVER (CBS4) - The suspect in Thursday night's fatal pedestrian hit-and-run accident surrendered to Denver police on Friday afternoon.
Johnnie Duran, 18, is being held on investigation of vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. Police say he is the nephew of the victim, 58-year-old Eugene Guerra of Denver.
The family said they're devastated and in shock, and they hope it's merely an accident. Those who know the family say it's not unusual for its members to be working at the nearby salvage yard late at night.
Law enforcement located the vehicle involved early Friday.
The vehicle, an '80s white Chevy pickup truck, was found at East 47th Avenue and Race Street, just blocks from the accident at 48th Avenue and Clarkson Street. Police tracked it down from a partial plate and tweeted a photo of the vehicle Friday morning.
