Highway 34 Through Big Thompson Canyon Reopens For Holiday Weekend

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – Highway 34 between Loveland and Estes Park is back open temporarily.

The highway through Big Thompson Canyon has been closed to non-residents as repairs have been ongoing since the flooding of September 2013.

Officials with the Colorado Department of Transportation reopened the highway at 4 p.m. for Thanksgiving holiday travelers.

The highway will stay open to the public until 7 p.m. Sunday night.

It will then shut back down for repairs until next May.

The area sustained significant damage in both the 1976 and 2013 floods.
