3 die in single-car crash in Northern Colorado on Highway 287

3 University of Wyoming students die in Colorado car crash

UPDATE: The three people who died were members of the University of Wyoming's swim and dive team.

Three people were killed in Colorado on Thursday on Highway 287 in Larimer County in what authorities say was a single-car crash. So far they haven't said what might have caused the wreck.

Highway 287 was closed in both directions for part of the afternoon and into the evening hours at County Road 37, also known as Red Mountain Road.

The crash happened about 3 p.m. Those killed in the crash include an 18-year-old, a 19-year-old and 21-year-old.

The Colorado State Patrol, Larimer County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Department of Transportation are investigating the crash. 

There was no estimate on when the highway would reopen. State troopers told CBS News Colorado to expect lengthy delays during the investigation and cleanup.
