Group Of Teens Touring Israel Arrives Safely Home In Denver
DENVER (CBS4) - The escalating violence in Israel caused a group of Colorado teens visiting the Middle East to change their itinerary.
The teens arrived to an emotional homecoming at Denver International Airport Sunday afternoon. There was lots of crying, hugging and lots of relief from both parents and students that everyone was able to make it home safely.
Dozens of parents cheered as the group of nearly 75 students with the Colorado Agency for Jewish Education returned.
The Colorado group has been touring Israel for about a month. Their plans called for them to go to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, but those plans had to change when the fighting in that area started escalating.
The Kohn family was among those anxiously waiting for their daughter to arrive.
"Knowing they were in danger for a little while was kind of nerve racking. We've just been focusing on this day getting them from Frankfurt, Germany, to here. We were counting down the seconds" parent Garry Kohn said.
Kohn's daughter Emily says they were sheltered twice when airstrike sirens went off.
"We were all a little worried because we knew about the rockets, and we didn't really know what to do," one of the teens told CBS4.
